Symposium: LSHTM and Nagasaki University: partnership successes and opportunities

LSHTM has a long-standing partnership with Nagasaki University, Japan’s leading university in tropical medicine and global health. It is the only university in Japan with an Institute of Tropical Medicine (NEKKEN). The university also has a large number of academic staff working on infectious diseases in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. More recently, the university has sought to bring together education and research functions related to global health in the School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health.

On 11 December, we will be hosting a delegation from Nagasaki University – including colleagues from the Institute of Tropical Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health – and launching a new Joint PhD programme in Global Health, which we hope will further consolidate collaboration between LSHTM and Nagasaki researchers.

In order to mark the occasion, we are holding a research symposium showcasing key research areas at LSHTM and Nagasaki and exploring opportunities for further collaboration and funding. The event will be of potential interest to all, as we strengthen our relationship with a key strategic partner, but prospective collaborators and students are particularly encouraged to attend.

The symposium will be followed by a Sake and Sushi networking reception in the South Courtyard Cafe.
